How to Make a Google Sheet Table Work on Wix Mobile

A Google Sheet table that looks fine on a laptop can overflow or cut off on a phone. Why that happens on Wix and the fixes to try.

A table built from a Google Sheet can look perfect on your laptop and still fall apart on a phone: columns cut off, text squeezed too small to read, or the whole page scrolling sideways to fit a table that's wider than the screen. This happens on Wix more often than most other layout problems because a table embedding a sheet is usually a fixed-size box, and phones don't have one fixed size.

How the Wix mobile editor works

Wix automatically builds a mobile version of your site from your desktop version. Text, images, and most elements get resized to fit, and elements Wix decides aren't optimized for mobile, such as hover effects, get hidden automatically. You can see and undo any of that hiding in the "Hidden on Mobile" panel in the editor's left-hand menu, and you can add elements that only appear on mobile from the Add panel while in the mobile editor.

To get there, click the "Switch to mobile" icon at the top of the desktop editor, or press Ctrl-J (Cmd-J on a Mac). Shrinking your browser window doesn't show you the same thing: the mobile editor is the only view that reflects what a phone actually renders, so it's worth checking there before judging whether a table "works" on mobile.

Why embedded sheets and tables overflow on phones

If your sheet is on the page through an Embed Code or HTML element, as it is when you publish a sheet to the web and embed that page, Wix's own documentation explains the core issue plainly: that kind of embed is a fixed-size iframe, and "certain iFrames are designed for specific screen sizes, and may not fit or align correctly on mobile devices." If the sheet's content is wider than the frame, Wix says it "will get cut off and will show scroll bars." The embed doesn't resize itself to the phone the way normal Wix text and images do.

The same root cause shows up with Wix's own native Table element, just for a different reason: a table with many columns is wide by nature, and on a narrow screen that width either forces the whole page to scroll sideways or squeezes every column until the text is unreadable.

Free fixes to try

Add a second, mobile-sized embed instead of resizing the desktop one. Wix's documented fix for an iframe that doesn't fit on mobile is to hide the desktop embed on mobile (through "Hidden on Mobile") and add a separate embed in the mobile editor's Add panel, sized for a phone screen from the start. You can't edit a desktop embed's code from inside the mobile editor, so you add a fresh embed there and leave the desktop one hidden.

Publish a narrower version of the sheet for mobile. In Google Sheets, "File," then "Share," then "Publish to web" lets you publish a specific sheet or range instead of the whole workbook. Publishing a cut-down version with fewer columns gives the mobile embed less width to fit, which is often enough on its own.

Hide columns you don't need on a phone. If you're using Wix's native Table element fed by a CMS collection, you can hide specific columns or elements on mobile through the same "Hidden on Mobile" panel, keeping the columns a phone visitor actually needs and dropping the rest.

Check it in the real mobile editor instead of a resized browser window. This sounds obvious, but a lot of "it looks fine" checks happen in a desktop browser pulled narrow, and that doesn't get the same layout Wix serves to a real phone.

When an app is worth it

The fixes above work, but they mean maintaining two versions of the same data: a full sheet and a trimmed one, or a desktop embed and a separate mobile embed, and reapplying that split every time the sheet's layout changes. If you'd rather have one table that adapts on its own, a table app built for this handles the responsive part for you.

Another option: SteadyTable

SteadyTable is a freemium Wix app that renders your Google Sheet as a table that scrolls inside itself on a phone instead of forcing the page to scroll sideways or cutting columns off. There's one table, one embed, and it adapts to whatever screen it's on, so you're not maintaining a separate mobile version by hand. Visitors can sort and search it from the same widget.

To connect a sheet, you paste its share link. The Free plan covers 1 table with up to 200 rows, syncing automatically once a day, with a small "Powered by SteadyTable" link under the table.

If a sideways-scrolling table on a phone is the problem you came here with, you can see SteadyTable in the Wix App Market: https://www.wix.com/app-market/venture-vd-llc-steadytable.
